Description

Bellvitge University Hospital is renovating the fifth floor of the former nursing building to transform it into the new acute psychiatric inpatient unit and the new Eating Disorders Unit.

This transformation has been made possible thanks to the new open unit, which was put into operation prior to the refurbishment of the new spaces. With all three units functioning, it is possible to provide more personalized and accurate care for each type of patient.

The aim of the proposal for the fifth floor is to offer a comprehensive solution that improves conditions for patients, professionals, and families. The new acute unit has capacity for 10 patients, and the Eating Disorders Unit for 8. The characteristics of these patients require safe and comfortable spaces that ensure both treatment and recovery.

In designing the layout, natural light has been prioritized to support circadian rhythms, a key aspect for hospitalized patients. The rooms are individual and include private bathrooms, as well as study and relaxation areas that ensure patient privacy.

Both units also include common areas for socialization and shared learning, as well as specific therapeutic spaces such as a multisensory room and, in the case of eating disorders, a therapeutic kitchen.

The area for professionals is located outside the hospitalization zone but maintains a direct connection that facilitates workflows while ensuring that patients cannot access restricted areas.
