Description

The proposal aims to transform the current residence into an innovative model of living units, designed to promote active and healthy ageing. The architectural approach enhances personal autonomy by providing a variety of spaces that each resident may inhabit freely and in a personalized way.

A key element of the project is the rehabilitation and reopening of floors 4, 5, and 6, which have been out of use for several years. Each floor will accommodate 26 single rooms, arranged into two living units of 13 residents, complemented by generous south-facing communal areas with abundant natural light and sea views. The refurbishment also includes upgrades to floors 1, 2, and 3 through the creation of new shared spaces, while interventions on the ground floor and basement will ensure full compliance with current safety regulations.

The design concept prioritises light, flexibility, and social interaction among residents. Open balconies, corridors conceived as spaces for encounter, and rooms with sitting areas and reception-style entrances create an atmosphere that evokes the comfort of home. This philosophy is further supported by ergonomic furnishings and high-quality equipment.

Equally, the wellbeing of care staff has been carefully considered, with the creation of work environments that convey calm, wellbeing, and functionality, thereby enabling close, attentive, and high-quality support for residents.

On the exterior, the project incorporates key sustainability and efficiency measures, including improved thermal insulation, the installation of solar-protection features, and the replacement of joinery with high-performance systems. These enhancements not only modernise the building but also ensure greater comfort while reinforcing a long-term commitment to environmental responsibility.
